Baluch Mosque + Cypress Tree Prayer Rug | 2'10" x 4'4" | c. 1940s–1950s
Details
An exceptional tribal prayer rug woven by the Baluch people, featuring a symbolic pairing of mosque domes and flanking cypress trees. The composition is striking in its geometry and visual clarity- arches repeat across the field like a chorus of sacred thresholds, while stylized flame-like blossoms and fine latticework lend movement and life to the design. A warm camel-hued ground anchors saturated vegetal reds and deep indigo blues, punctuated by black, plum, and purple. The wool-on-wool structure and fine knotting give it both softness and strength.
