Hand-Embroidered Chambray Shirt | XL | c. 1970s
Details
This one-of-a-kind shirt is a vintage piece from the 1970s, hand-embroidered and preserved in its original chambray cotton-blend form. The front features a playful arrangement of motifs including penguins, a straw basket, spectacles, and a parasol — each individually stitched by hand. Grapes adorn the collar tips, while a fine trail of embroidered florals follows the button placket. The back is marked by a caduceus symbol just beneath the collar, with a single syringe near the hem — a juxtaposition of folk imagery and clinical iconography.
The shirt retains its original XL label and features a boxy silhouette with a curved hem. It has two chest pockets, long sleeves with T-button cuffs, and a six-button front closure. All embroidery has been applied post-production and varies slightly in texture and thread density, consistent with handwork. Minor signs of age have been preserved as part of the garment’s character.
Each Bang Bang Company garment is sourced for its tactile history and narrative potential. This piece has been restored and embroidered by hand in our studio, honoring the original structure while reimagining it through a lens of contemporary storytelling.
