Details

A joyful and elemental Gabbeh rug woven in the 1990s by Qashqai nomads in southern Iran, featuring wide, saturated stripes and scattered symbolic motifs. The design is deceptively simple: a rhythmic sequence of earthy tones: golden saffron, sky blue, tobacco brown, and spring green banded across the field like a color study in desert light.

Within the stripes, the hand of the weaver introduces playful surprises: abstract “Tree of Life” motifs and checkerboard medallions, rendered in saturated tones of citron, indigo, and coral. Each symbol, while naive in form, is ancient in meaning — referencing growth, fertility, and balance. The unstudied asymmetry and irregular spacing lend the piece a tactile intimacy; no machine could replicate this quiet, meditative chaos.

Woven from hand-spun wool and dyed with vegetal pigments, this Gabbeh rug is thick, soft, and deeply soulful - made for lying on the floor with books or sun-drenched dreaming.
